America (a thank you to Bruce Cockburn)

i fell in love with America….the beauty was undeniable upon first gaze…passion…understanding..something always longed for…needed…and it was given at gratis, Here…I give you my all…everything I have, she said…i drank from the cup…her rich red wines made me drunk…love drunk…

that first night we met…no questions…no confessions…a warm embrace leading to long kisses with hands holding one another’s face…that’s how these affairs start….simply being in the moment and hoping that moment lasts…hoping…

the exploration of America revealed her true nature….commerce begets commerce….business is business and don’t ask questions if you don’t want the truth…this was the contract signed with blood, body, and soul…count me in…

but…she did not reveal the homeless in her streets…the hungry ones…the hopeless…and that was truly the biggest heartbreak of all…

America….i wanted all of you…not just half…i longed for your riches…your idealism…your voice never silenced…yet…the calls were never returned…the voicemails…the texts…the emails…messages sent by carrier pigeons…nope…nada…nothing…your borders were closed…

she is gone now…slipped down the alley with another…and another…and another…

i wonder if they were offered the same deal…

The writing is based on my surroundings and what I've been surrounded by. This language is coarse and politically incorrect; which I make no apologies for. These characters are not nice and to use any other dialogue would be disingenuine. That being said, I choose to roll the dice. dm seay
