now gone…

Chicago…Chicago…i’m down-n-out on your streets…a peasant in your palm…hands outstretched…waiting to be picked-up and held by a city that no-longer has arms…

this yellow moon that shines down on me…pale light glows in the midst of on-coming traffic…lanterns lit…flags waving…the poor have no banner…no banner…

and blisters hurt with every step…down Clark…Halsted…Broadway…Division…soliciting no-one…asking nothing of a people which no-longer give…citizenry gave-up…as have i…

no fight left in this soul…from mission to mission…soup-line to soup line…i see them all…waiting for daily bread…wanting to be delivered…

Chicago…Chicago…i weep now…longing for yesterday…when pockets were full…belly filled…heart swollen…drinks all around this town at places now gone…now gone…

done are days of Maxwell Street…Jew- town’s no longer Jew-town…Wicker Park went upscale…Sophie sold her joint to the first taker…do Polacks weep for her soul…i know i do…

and blacks play stick-up on the Southside while whites in Lincoln Park awake to a vitamin shake in offices where boys play grown-up and girls dress for the occasion…to play house for one more night…one more night…

where am i…in these streets…corners i used to hold court on…churches where i prayed…midnight diners drinking coffee with tranny whores and smoking cigarettes with city cops…

now gone…those days are now gone…now i wander down streets in search of a next meal…everything is temporary…

everything is temporary…

The writing is based on my surroundings and what I've been surrounded by. This language is coarse and politically incorrect; which I make no apologies for. These characters are not nice and to use any other dialogue would be disingenuine. That being said, I choose to roll the dice. dm seay
